Terms
The short version of what you can expect from Candela and what we expect from you. By signing in you agree to these terms.
What Candela is
Candela is an educational programming environment. The tutor asks questions rather than writing answers, and the project you build is yours to keep and to share. The product is in active development, so features will change, copy will change, and occasionally something will break. We will tell you when it does.
Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use Candela. If you are setting Candela up on behalf of a school or program, you confirm that you have the authority to do so.
Your account
You sign in with Google, GitHub, or an email magic link, so there is no password for you to lose. You are responsible for the account you sign in with, and if something looks wrong (a session you did not start, work you did not write), email us and we will help you sort it.
Acceptable use
Do not use Candela to harass other users, build malware, or generate content that violates the law. Do not attempt to extract the tutor's system prompt for redistribution, scrape other students' projects at scale, or interfere with the service for other people. Do not use the export features to push abusive code to GitHub or to deploy it elsewhere from our infrastructure.
We may suspend an account that breaks these rules, and we will tell you why if we do.
Your work belongs to you
The code you write, the brief you draft, and the reasoning entries you log all belong to you. You grant Candela the limited right to host that content so the product can render it back to you and to anyone you choose to share it with.
When you mark a project public, whether through the reading view or the GitHub export, you are choosing to publish that work, and anyone with the link will be able to read it. You can take it down at any time.
Service availability
We aim to keep Candela available but we do not commit to a specific uptime number. The service can go down for maintenance, for hosting failures, or for third-party outages at Supabase, Anthropic, or Vercel. When that happens we will work to bring it back as quickly as we can.
Liability
Candela is provided as-is. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising out of your use of the product, such as missed deadlines or work you did not back up elsewhere. Where the law gives you rights that cannot be waived, including consumer protection rights in the UK and the EU, this clause does not override them.
Termination
You can stop using Candela at any time and request that we delete your account and the data associated with it. We can suspend or terminate an account that breaks the acceptable-use rules above, or where required to protect the service or its users.
Changes
When these terms change in a way that affects you we will update the date at the top of this page, and if the change is material we will tell you inside the product before it takes effect.
Governing law
Candela is operated from the United Kingdom and these terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
